Apply real headings before relying on the outline
The guide describes opening the outline through View and Show Document Outline. If the panel is empty, apply an appropriate title or heading style to the section text through Paragraph Styles or the toolbar. Different levels form a hierarchy in the sidebar. As headings are added, removed, or rearranged, the outline updates to reflect the document, making structure easier to inspect while drafting.
Use navigation without deleting the document text
Clicking an outline entry jumps to that section. The guide also explains that an entry can be removed from the outline without deleting the heading from the document or changing its formatting. A removed entry can be added back through the text’s context menu. This lets you adjust the navigation view while preserving the actual content. Hide the panel when it is distracting and reopen it when checking a long document’s organization.
