Explain what a short name cannot
Similar filenames make a shared collection difficult to navigate, even when its folders appear tidy. How To Geek recommends adding descriptions to Google Drive files and folders so people can understand the contents before opening them. A description can explain what a screenshot shows or what belongs in a project directory. That additional context complements a concise title instead of forcing every detail into the filename itself.
Use details and search together
Select an item in Drive and open its details sidebar, then find the description field and enter the relevant explanation. The interface saves the description, and reopening the details view allows later edits. The guide also notes that words in descriptions can help locate items through Drive search. Choose terms someone else would actually use when looking for the document. Searchable descriptions are particularly useful when several items have comparable names, though they still work best alongside a clear folder structure and consistent naming.
