Inspect the earlier version before restoring it
Open File, Version history, and See version history in a Google Docs document. The panel groups related edits and shows earlier states of the file. Select a version to inspect its contents and the associated changes before deciding to restore it. Access to this history requires suitable editing permissions, so a recipient with only viewing access should not expect the same controls.
Understand what restoration changes
Restore this version makes the selected earlier state the current document after confirmation. It does not simply erase every later version from the history. If the result is not what was intended, return to version history and inspect the other saved states. This makes restoration a controlled review step rather than a reason to maintain many separate attachments with increasingly confusing filenames. Check the selected state carefully before confirming the change.
